Drawings of Game of Thrones Characters in the 90s

This great article on Wired features the work of illustrator Mike Wrobel.

Here are some of my favorites.

Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements

This book, written in 1896, is a fascinating example of human ingenuity and cleverness. We don’t normally associate technical innovation with the 1800s, but don’t forget that’s when machines and automation in factories really started to take off.

Inspired by the book, Matt Keveney created a companion site 507movements.com, where he is animating some of the examples.

Check out some of these examples and you’ll see why this is so cool.

Insane Tornado Footage

This is some of the most intense footage of a tornado I’ve ever seen. It’s *inside* the tornado.

Can you imagine sitting at your desk and looking out the window at the 1:20 mark?

I was told by AppleCare that I could walk in the store and get the part

This frustrated woman is now the inadvertent star of a budding viral video. (Hey, if she didn’t want the attention, she shouldn’t have started yelling.)

Well, no embarrassing viral video would be complete unless some schmuck creates a slowed-down version. Today, I am that schmuck.

Here’s the slowed-down version of “I was told by AppleCare that I could walk in the store and get the part.”

Badass First Person Russian Music Video is Badass

I wish they chose a different poster frame for this because the cheap boob shot seriously undermines the quality of the rest of the video.

In any case, check it out. Some of the most creative filmmaking I’ve ever seen.

Jack Handey’s New Book

Remember “Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handey”? I always assumed he was a pseudonym for a group of SNL writers. But after reading this New York Times article about him and his new book, “The Stench of Honolulu” it looks like he’s the real deal.

And holy crap this novel looks hilarious. To me he’s like the original Rob Delaney – brutish, aloof, and shocking. Can’t wait to read this one.

Jacy Catlin is Funny

In addition to being one of the funniest people on Vine, commedian Jacy Catlin has a wonderfully disgusting and bizarre blog: ieatanddrink.tumblr.com.

He posts drawings, videos, and even long-form stories. Here’s an excerpt from one, entitled “I Threw Shit at Everyone I Saw For a Day and Here’s What Happened

Each would start with me enjoying a bowl of Crispix, and I could be anywhere; on the subway, in a Subway, outside, sitting down, throwing up; whatever. There I would be, enjoying my Crispix, when BAM: first person I see, I take a shit and throw it at them. Then, here’s the kicker, and the part I thought Kellogg’s would really appreciate; I turn to the camera and say “Crispix”.

Zomies and Fluid Dynamics

I haven’t seen “World War Z” but some of these effects look amazing.

Russian Rocket Explosion Videos Without The Sound Delay

Earlier this week an unmanned Russian rocket exploded in Kazakhstan. A few spectators managed to record the explosion, but because of the great distance from the launchpad all the videos have a sound delay of a few seconds.

So just for fun I picked two videos and re-edited the audio to remove the delay, and the result helps give an even clearer picture of the powerful destructive forces at work.

Here comes the boom. Enjoy.

The Most Powerful Office in Manhattan?

This is the personal office of billionaire hedge fund manager Steven Cohen. It’s in the penthouse of One Beacon Court, one of the few residences in the Bloomberg Building, and one of the few New York properties selling for more than $100 Million. $115 Million to be exact.

As a standalone office out of context it’s nothing extraordinary. Standard desk and array of monitors. The chair looks like a Herman Miller.

But imagine sitting in that chair in that room. It must feel like you have the world at your fingertips. That’s some crazy power to imagine.
