As if all the sound effects of the Mac OSX interface weren’t annoying enough, I decided to take things a step too far. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Due to popular demand, I’m posting the GarageBand file I created that’s responsible for this madness. Feel free to have your way with it. Download the zip here. Also, here’s an m4a audio file for those brave souls who want to risk this song suddenly coming on during a Party Shuffle.

  8. This is what I mean when I say genius bars!

Great ! ( just one question: where’s the opening chime ? It should be considered a system sound, somehow… :-)

  9. Thanks Camillo. I would have loved to use the opening chime, but I couldn’t find it in the filesystem. I could probably have found it online, but I wanted to keep it pure and use only the system sounds in the /System/Library/Sounds folder. (With one exception, of course…)

  13. Great stuff… I think I like this one better, which is no fault of yours, just that Windows98 had better sounds to work with:

  14. “…Windows98 had better sounds to work with…”

That’s because Brian Eno made the sounds for Windows at that point.

  22. Fantastic, my congrats!! It feels strange listening to it because you have learnt unconsciously all those sounds like ‘bad thing happened’ or ‘check this out now!’ but the melody is beautiful :)

I hope there is a Song 2 in the future to delightfully scare us again :D
