How to Vine With No Hands

Whenever I see people using Vine with no hands, I assumed they were doing it with paperclips and sponges or something. But it turns out you can do it completely from the phone itself. Duh.

The basic idea is to use the iPhone’s built-in functionality for helping people with motor problems. In this case their deficit is our benefit. Nice!

First, go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn “AssistiveTouch” on.

Then you’ll create a new gesture. Just tap and hold in the center of the screen until the time limit runs out. You’re probably figuring out where this is going.

Then save that gesture and call it whatever you want. I called mine “Vine” because I’m original.

Notice that when you turned on AssistiveTouch it added a little circle thingy to your phone? Well that’s how you activate the gesture you just made.

Tap the circle, choose “Favorites”, then tap “Vine”. Then it will add an extra blue circle to your screen. Tap that blue circle to start recording.

If you’re having trouble, here are some things I’ve noticed:

You can reposition that AssistiveTouch circle thingy by dragging it. Sometimes using it in Vine only works when it’s on the left middle side of the screen.

Sometimes your Custom Gesture of just tapping and holding in the middle of the screen doesn’t work. So try making a new gesture where you tap, hold, and slightly move your finger around in a circle.

Sometimes ending the Vine video is tricky. If you can’t tap the Next button in Vine, hit the home button and wait a few seconds, then relaunch the app. Your Vine should still be there.

So that’s how to Vine with no hands. Enjoy, and keep using Vine to record your stupid crap!

    PLEASE REPLY ASAP

Ok, so when I finished my vine, it wouldn’t let me press the check mark and I didn’t read the rest of this article, so I locked my screen. Now, my touch screen isn’t working and I cant even slide to unlock. Do you know anyway to fix this problem?

    Thanks

Just hit the home button after the recording is done. Then open up Vine again. The article says that, but many might have overlooked it.

This happened to me, in order to unlock your phone, you must restart your phone my holding down the lock and the home. It’ll turn off, then do it again to turn it back on. Turn off the assistive touch.

Yeah it works but it freezes your whole phone and you have turn it off to fix it.

Don’t mean to be a nudge but you are in fact touching the phone. This is not the no hands technique I was looking for.

All you have to do once the vine is done is click the assisted touch button once again. It takes away the blue gesture and you can finish and post with no problems. I spent 30 minutes Doing this over and over, just be careful what you press after your vine is done. Always rich the assisting touch button and then touch outside the options. Good luck

What I did to turn it off because I had the same problem, is that I clicked the original Assisative touch button (the white thing) then I turned pinch/zoom on and then off. Then I could regain control over my device and turn Assisitive Touch off

  17.  Rate Comment Up Rate Comment Down  +1

Yeah, when you’re done making your vine, you have to hold back onto the dot to switch it back to ‘pinch’ I was freaking out too, then I figured it out

  18.  Rate Comment Up Rate Comment Down  --1

this does not mess up your phone. just triple-click the home button to turn on/off AssistiveTouch. settings>general>accessibility>triple-click home>AssistiveTouch

If you’re trying to do this for stop-motion animation, check out Vinyet. It lets you set a timer with a delay and duration so that you can setup your shot. The videos it creates can be posted straight to Vine or Instagram! http://vinyet.co

Just leave your settings on as. touch(I hav IOS 7)And when you’re done with your vine double tap the home button and try to click settings then just turn off as. touch.OR hold ur home button until the thingy pops up and you just say “STOP AS. TOUCH” and it should stop!
It worked for me so dont be scared like I was!

This actually works for me takes some patients and some getting used to. I stayed using it yesterday. Here’s a tip yes it locked up when yur done recording just click or something hold the assitive bottom the home screen of it should pop up then just click off of it. It’s actually easy just take yur time and don’t get angry at it because it would seem like it’s not work and is taking to long. Have patients with it and you will have it down pack in no time I already feel like I do.

Wow really? “The basic idea is to use the iPhone’s built-in functionality for helping people with motor problems. In this case their deficit is our benefit. Nice!” Their deficit is our benefit? Nice? Are you serious? How can you write “Nice!” about benefiting from a feature meant to help someone incapable of doing something? That’s one of the most disrespectful things I’ve ever read. You need to reevaluate your morals and recognize the impact your words can have on other people.

When you complete your vine, access Siri by holding down your home screen button.. Once Siri is opened, say “close setting” she should ask “close what setting?” tell her “accessibility”, that ended mine. Hopefully that helps you.

  37.  Rate Comment Up Rate Comment Down  +0

If your screen is frozen hold down the home button and tell siri to close accessibility then hold down the power and home screen button until your iPod/iPhone is off then turn it on. it should be fine
